Zoe, My 2-Year-Old Problem Solver!

Zoe is my 2 year old genius baby. She’s too smart for my own good… and tonight, she proved this even further than she previously has. She brought me her empty Sonic cup and pointed to my route 44 sweet tea — then pointed back to her empty cup. Zoe is a pointer. She uses that little index finger to say what her mouth …

Out of the Mouths of MY Babies

Lately, Zoe (who JUST turned 2 on June 27th) has been taking off her diaper when she “goes” in it. Even if it’s just a TEENY bit wet, she takes it off, throws it away, and comes to me with a new diaper gesturing that I should put it on her. Yesterday evening, I noticed her just walking around — naked. Here’s how our conversation …

Female Body Builders: My Son’s Perspective

Tre didn’t believe me when I told him that there are women in the world stronger than his daddy. I decided to prove it by pulling up a bunch of Google images showing female body builders. His reactions:
Eww. That’s gross. Why did you have to show me that? I haven’t been bad today. I didn’t deserve punishment.
Women body builders are not hot. At all. They …

Zoe Turned TWO!

It’s difficult to describe the feeling I have when I just sit silently and watch my kids. Briyana is nearly midway through her first year with a double-digit age. How do I make myself understand that she will be 11 years old in seven months? I have yet to really “accept” that she is entering the 5th grade this fall. Between now and the end …

Almost Doesn’t Count

“Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.”

I do my best to instill strong positive characteristics in my children. They are expected to be respectful, obedient, and kind. Of course, they are not always those things because they are human and won’t ever be perfect. I don’t really teach them to try to be perfect, but I do teach them to always try their best …

Happy Father’s Day… Happy Birthday… & a trip home :)

Wednesday, we loaded up and headed back to our hometown to take Barry’s cousin’s 6 year old daughter home who had been staying with us for almost a month. The kids had SUCH a good visit with her – I swear it was neverending playing, giggling, and messes the entire time LOL :)
During the less-than-24-hours we were in Hattiesburg, we decided to celebrate Father’s Day …

Mommy Guilt… Is Everything My Fault?

There are so many things that can go on during the course of a day when you have children. Multiply that by five and you’re in my house. Oh, and just add one for good measure since my husband’s cousin’s little girl is visiting us for the summer as well. As a mother, I’m quite possibly the one to be voted least likely to freak …

Free Range Kids or Not? For Me, It’s “or Not”…

Last year, I came across a WordPress.com blog post on FreeRangeKids. The basic idea that the writer behind the blog, Lenore Skenazy, created the blog to discuss is that children shouldn’t be “helicopter parented” and should be allowed to learn self-reliance and how to maintain their own safety at vulnerably young ages. Obviously, those who are long time readers of my blog are fully aware …

A Good, LONG Weekend {and a BAD start to my week…}

Friday, we packed up and hit the road to travel to Hattiesburg where my husband was playing in our high school’s first ever Alumni football game the following evening. It started out just like every other trip we’ve made with all five of the kids – and the dog – but when we got almost to Jackson, there was a speedbump-sized BUMP in the highway …
