New Orleans Weekend: THE “PRE” TRIP DEETS

As everyone knows, I tried out for American Idol yesterday. My next few posts will catch you all up as to what we’ve been doing for the last six days! :) We left Wednesday afternoon headed to my mom’s to take the kids. Things were kind of all up in the air; the morning was busy with me trying to get everything packed and finalized and rushing to the DMV to get a new ID. In all the madness, I managed to run out of the house without my birth certificate which I had to have to register for the American Idol audition.

We tried to make it to Jackson in time to run by the vital records office but missed it by 20 minutes! We got to my mom’s around 6:30pm and I took a little down time to get some work done while Barry went to go visit his dad (he had a stroke a couple of weeks ago and is still in the hospital). The kids took the opportunity to get to know my mom’s new puppy a little better. She’s got a Cocker Spaniel and a Lhasa Opso already but just got a little Yorkie to add to her “collection” which also includes a kitten named Curious George LOL

The next morning, Barry let me sleep in and he got up to wash some clothes and get the kids in order. I got up around 10:30am or so and got ready to go to Jackson to pick up my birth certificate. We stopped afterward to do lunch at a Chinese restaurant then thought we’d hit up the mall to shop for an outfit for me to wear to the American Idol audition.

Big mistake. LOL Ladies, when you consider taking your husband with you to give you feedback as you shop for *the* perfect outfit to combine comfort with a reflection of your personity… well, just do yourself a favor and don’t. He was about as helpful as Zoe would have been. Hubby + shopping = kill me. So I gave that up and decided to run back to Hattiesburg to go shopping with my friend, Mary, from high school.

Mary and I hit up Belk’s and found a super cute pair of Calvin Klein jeans and a green top that made my hair and eye colors pop. We also found a pair of brown strappy cork heels on sale and snatched those up as well. We copped a matching belt and purse at Maurice’s across from the mall. Mary, by the way, is awesome. She had gift cards that she’d collected over the months and threw me those to use for my clothes. Talk about SWEET!! Total for the ‘fit: $145. Total out of pocket: $15. Nice! :)

After the mall, we ran through Popeye’s and got a bucket of chicken then headed back to her house where her sons forced me to play Let’s Dance (or something like that) on their Wii, which I totally sucked at but it was fun lol Barry picked me up later that night and we went grocery shopping for my mom’s house so the kids could eat for the next four days while we were gone.

Friday we got up and went into travel mode. LOL We made sure everything was set for the kids and everything was situated at the hotel we booked for the New Orleans trip. We re-packed our stuff and hit the highway at about 1pm headed toward the NOLA.
